Goal

Our School has a wonderful community supported Relax and Read program where volunteers from the community come in and read to our students each week. These volunteers create a love and an excitement for reading. I would like to build on this "Relax and Read" program by creating a comfy reading nook -- where students will want to grab a book or Kindle and read.  

What will be done with my students

I will create a Reading Nook that will be inviting and comfortable where students who have completed work or during center rotations can relax and read. Most of these students do not have that comfortable place to read -- my goal is that ALL my students will learn that reading can transport them, not only to that wonderful world of make believe but also the world of real-life graphic rich text. I believe that once students get hooked on reading the sky is the limit! 

Benefits to my students

Students will be engaged in reading.
Students Reading Scores will increase.
Students will want to finish classwork, correctly in order to get a chance to relax and read.  

Budget Narrative

The chairs will be purchased from IKEA and the Kindles from Staples. Books on the Kindle will be exciting for the students to use in the Reading Nook. The $100.00 Amazon Card is to purchase books for the Kindles.
