Goal

To enable teachers to provide differentiated, targeted, and efficient skills instruction embedded into one-on-one conferences and strategy plans.

What will be done with my students

The IRLA identifies the WHAT (each child needs to learn next) and the toolkit delivers the HOW (to teach it). This program will allow teachers to target small gaps in students' reading skills in order to maximize instructional time and show tremendous academic gains.

Benefits to my students

Reading is essential for a child’s success.Learning to read is a sequential process; each new skill builds on the mastery of previously learned skills. Early on, for example, children learn to break down words into their most basic sounds in a process called decoding. Later, they begin to comprehend the meaning of words, sentences and, ultimately, entire passages of text. This program allows to meet the reader at their current need and continually push them forward.

Describe the Students

For many, decoding comes naturally, quickly becoming an automatic process. For people who struggle to decode words, however, the process requires such extreme concentration that they often miss much of the meaning in what they read. Indeed, according to many experts, decoding problems are at the root of most reading disabilities.Decoding creates the foundation on which all other reading skills are built. This program gives teachers step by step directions for which teachers can build these foundational skills.
