Goal

My goal is to provide students with opportunities to take pride in their behavior and learning. I want students to love coming to school, learning, and feeling celebrated.

What will be done with my students

Each month, my students have the opportunity to be selected as a character winner. In order to be selected, students need to demonstrate outstanding character (respect, responsibility, self motivation, etc.) In order to celebrate students' achievements more deliberately, I'd like to provide a copy of the selected character book to students upon winning with a short note on the inside from me. It will help to foster pride, ownership of great behavior, and serves as a memory for students. Plus, it puts books in kids hands! I'm unable to select ALL of my students for character awards and each does something remarkable daily. I'd also like to purchase spirit sticks which have motivational words and phrases for building character, teaching responsible decision making, and building learners' confidence. I'd also like to purchase a copy of the school book for each student to provide to them at the end of the school year with a note written from me to them as a reminder that character matters, learning is important, and we can do hard things together.

Benefits to my students

My students will be benefitted by this grant because it isn't just focused on academics. It's focused on seeing the good in all students. It's also about celebrating each student's success and intentionally noticing what they are doing.

Describe the Students

I have 19 students who are average to high average performers. I have three ESE students and three 504 students. They are all incredibly bright and try their hardest with all tasks. As I'm learning more about their personalities, I'm seeing great friendships forming and their personal contributions to our class community. As with all students, we spend time working on how to talk with people and how we build others up.

Budget Narrative

My plan is to provide each student with a spirit stick no less than three 0 four times per month. This will be in addition to positive praise and teacher/student conversations about character building. I plan to purchase books that are selected and approved by the school to provide students once they earn their award for the character trait. I'd also like to give each student a copy of the school book of the year.
