Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 104

The coffee shop has brought real life experience into my classroom for entrepreneurship.  The students operate the shop from ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, running the shop and managing others.  They set up the cart every Monday and Friday from stocking it and making each customers cup of coffee.

This has been an excellent working model for my students.  It has also carried over into my Digital Information Technology classes as they did a spreadsheet to tally the inventory after the Entrepreneurship class did a physical count of our inventory.  They also created a logo using Microsoft Word for the Coffee Shop.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I want to be able to have a hands on coffee shop run by our entrepreneur students. Each class would be responsible for buying products, selling products and managing the funds for the coffee shop.

What will be done with my students

Students will be responsible for completely running a coffee shop in the morning. They will have to price out supplies, order supplies, maintain a proper inventory, run the coffee shop and keep the financial records.

Benefits to my students

Students will have a hands on from beginning to ending of what it takes to run a small business.

Describe the Students

We are a brand new Technical High School, where all programs run around a business, such as nursing, veterinary, construction, gaming design, etc. My students consist of 7% of students with ESE accommodations, 19% have 504 accommodations, 1% has ESOL accommodations, the population is fairly 50/50 male/female. I have a good mix of low/high performers.
