Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 44

The Kindles were shared between two classes, in partenerships, for Math and Science. Having the hand held kindles supported movement choices aligned to our initiative of cultural responsive teaching.

Students were able to move around as neccessary for the various activities: programming robots ( see picture).

Students were able to access Science websites and videos to enhance instruction: SLAG links, Fusion tutorials.

Students also used them for Quizlet access: making academics fun through competition.

They are also being used for remediation for Science and Math inistruction for those identified, through 17-18 FSA, 18-19 MAP scores for MAth and the Science diagnostic and cycle 1/2 data from the District assessment.  Students are coming in early or staying late to work independently on the kindles.

Currently we do not have achievement data, however, students are highly engaged and particpating.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

to increase the percentage of Fifth grade students meeting or exceeding state proficiency on FSA:
ELA- increase from 32% to 55%
Math- increase from 52% to 62%

What will be done with my students

Students will be given a Kindle to access ST Math, Istation and PLP during independent work time. They will be able to use their flexible seating options.
Students will also be able to use for research and academic games responding: quizlet
We will use book fair monies to purchase an additional 6 to make up a class set to divide among 5 classes (88 students), including the EBD program. Teachers will collaborate for whole class usage, aligned to the curriculum.

Benefits to my students

We have been working on cultural relevant teaching strategies for the past two years. One of the strategies is movement within the classroom.
We have found that the students need optional seating opportunities to fully engage in their learning. They need to feel comfortable with the freedom to move within the classroom.
They will be able to sit on the floor or in alternate seating , without being confided to a table and chair.
