Goal

Fourth grade students will increase in reading proficiency.  

 

What will be done with my students

Fourth graders will be placed in reading clubs to discuss and share insights into high interest chapter books. This will take place on an ongoing basis throughout the school year.  

 

Benefits to my students

Reading achievement will increase among all 4th graders. Students will gain the love for reading and books which will translate into a lifelong habit of being a reader. Literate community members are productive community members.  

 

Describe the Students

Bay Vista Fundamental's school population consists of the following: 45% Caucasian, 39% African American, 9% Hispanic, 1% Native American , and 4% Other. Fifty percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch but we do not receive any Title 1 funding. Eleven percent are ESE. Bay Vista has two full time Gifted units. 2018 FSA ELA proficiency in 4th grade decreased significantly from 81% to 62%.  

 

Budget Narrative

Bay Vista will purchase 8 sets (6 copies each) of high interest chapter books which will cost approximately. $500.00.
