Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 24

The impact that the flexible seating grant has had on my classroom has been extremely positive.  Students are more focused and engaged.  This has happened by giving students opportunities to find the type of seating that helps them be the most productive and effective learner they can be.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Learning today is a collaborative adventure. Flexible seating allows for more productive collaboration between students that traditional seating does not allow.

This grant would allow me to purchase flexible seating options for my students in order to increase learning.

What will be done with my students

Many students are uncomfortable in traditional seating, desks are too big or too small, and those plastic chairs can get uncomfortable for longer periods of time. Students who are uncomfortable have a difficult time being productive learners. In addition, more and more students seem to display those "fidgety" behaviors, many need the opportunity to increase their movement in class.

This grant would not only benefit my students this year, but future students year after year.

Benefits to my students

Research has shown that classrooms that utilize flexible seating have seen an increase in student achievement. In addition, flexible seating will increase student collaboration and continue to foster a sense of community in my classroom. Flexible seating allows students to begin to understand what type of learner they are. Students who are comfortable are productive, suing flexible seating would allow my students to be more productive and have a positive way to have movement in the classroom. In addition, many of the seating options have built in sensory stimulation that can benefit many students who have ADD/ADHD, ASD, etc.

Describe the Students

My 4th grade classroom is the most wonderful mix of students! Each one is special and unique , making learning an adventure for all!

I have 22 students in my classroom. We have a wide range of academic abilities in my classroom from gifted to low performing.
