My goal is to infuse literacy into my Pre-k students' daily school day. The Pre-k curriculum consists of themed units and in these units there are specific standards that must be met. My goal is to provide experiences for my kiddos through the use of literacy to enhance their ability to learn the skill that was just taught. During each theme, I would love to provide them with books, magazines and technology that would enhance their learning. I'd love to provide them with books and hands-on materials to expand the lesson taught. Books and stories about the standards they must hit; positional words, colors, shapes, patterning, social skills, counting, seasons, the list is endless and so are the resources. My goal is to support the lessons taught with literary materials, books, magazines and technology.

Goal

What will be done with my students

Pre-k curriculum supports learning through play. My plan for my students is to incorporate each lesson with books to strengthen the ability for my 3 year old learners to learn at their own appropriate level. The goal of the Pre-k experience is to work/play independently in each center while learning social skills, increase language and communication skills. Each month the theme changes, I would love to provide the dramatic themed center with hands-on materials to enhance their independence while learning about Family Living, Pet Shop, Construction Zone, Beauty Parlor, Supermarket. The themed centers are powerful learning tools for 3 year old kiddos.
I'd like to be able to teach the lessons; counting, patterning, opposites, colors, shapes, seasons, and then supply each center with the materials to enhance the theme just taught. I would saturate the Science Center with books about the 5 senses, sink and float, bugs, seasons, the Math Center would have books about counting, shapes, making sets etc. I believe this would be a great experience for my students. I want my kiddos to be excited about the lessons they learn and to be able to expand their learning with literacy materials.

Benefits to my students

My blended Pre-K class will benefit from themed books and supplies to enhance their learning. The ability of a child to independently incorporate the lesson learned to their own ability, is a very important piece to teaching and learning. Each lesson taught will encourage communication, social skills, independence. I want for them to take the lesson I have taught and incorporate it independently into their day. In order to do that, I'd like to have materials to enhance their learning. I want them to take with them the lesson and make it personal.

Describe the Students

My class is made up of 10 sweet, lovely little children. I have 7 ESE children, with varying disabilities, including Developmentally Delayed, Language Impaired and non-verbal kiddos. I have 3 General Ed students. Combined, they are adorable children who are little sponges that hang on to every word that is spoken throughout the day. I embrace their ability and skill at such a young age and I am very proud to be the person who enriches their lives. These children come with difficulties, including home life, social skills, behaviors, academic disabilities. I believe that through the use of colorful books on a Pre-K level, my children would thrive. How exciting to support learning with supplementary materials. It would be in their best interest also for me to send home books that enhance their learning.
