Kindergarten students learn though doing and not just sitting and listening. They need hands on objects to help cement learning to memory. I am hoping to receive manipulatives the students can use in class to help enhance their learning and solidify the correct spelling of sight words to memory as well as the names of shapes.

Goal

Kindergarten students learn though doing and not just sitting and listening. They need hands on objects to help cement learning to memory. I am hoping to receive manipulatives the students can use in class to help enhance their learning and solidify the correct spelling of sight words to memory as well as the names of shapes.

What will be done with my students

The students will use the Alphabet Stamp Set during our literacy center time. They will be able to stamp out their sight words and work with partners to help them learn the correct spelling of the words.

For the shape sort, the students will be able to use this activity in pairs. Since there are a variety of different shapes and sizes on the educational toy, they will work on shape recognition, but also understand that the shapes have the same name no matter what the size.

Benefits to my students

Students love being able to take control of their learning. They enjoy working hands on, but also with partners. They want to talk with one another and when I can facilitate them talking about their learning, it makes it that much better! The stamp set and shape sort also helps with fine motor skills which is an added benefit.

Describe the Students

My students are very special! They come for a variety of different background and are always hard working. I have a mixture of students in my classroom this year. I have a few that have English as a second language and some who have IEPs for speech and language. I also have student who are exceeding expectations but want to further their learning and are given sight words that are above grade level. With this mix, we have formed a classroom family that works together and cares about one another. These educational toys will have the students talking with one another about learning and observations.
