The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was established at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School in 2016. Our mission is to educate students and create a responsible citizen upon graduation. We teach students many topics including discipline, pride, marksmanship, close-order-drill, history, government and leadership. Our program started with just over 70 cadets last year and has grown to over 140 in year two. We are requesting funding to assist in growing the program even more; to reach more students and minimize any out of pocket expenses the student may incur. This has become even more important given the loss of government funding that has recently occurred leaving our program to rely on the school district and the community to support.

Goal

The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps was established at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School in 2016. What will be done with my students

Students will be allowed to participate in competitions in several categories. We have established a Marksmanship team, Drill team, Academic Team and Physical Fitness Team. We plan on competing in several Marksmanship competitions, at least two different Drill Competitions to include the MCJROTC Regional competition in Orlando, an Academic Competition and a Physical Fitness Competition. We would also like to host at least one Competition in the Spring to allow the other Palm Beach County JROTC’s a chance to compete with us. This program will also work to host two summer camps for returning and incoming Cadets as we strive to build the student leadership in the unit.

Benefits to my students

These competitions will generate unit pride and give the Cadets confidence as they discover the leadership that is inside them. They will also gain valuable experience that will allow them to lead the next year of Cadets as we strive to build this program to reach as many students as possible.

Budget Narrative

The MCJROTC previously was funded through its own fundraising and the government. Due to recent changes, the MCJROTC is going to have to fund itself through fundraising and the school/school district. The school and school district have not previously had to provide any budget for the program but the recent loss of government funding for this program requires the program to gain this funding from the school and district or become self-sufficient. The items below are just list of what previously would have been covered by the government but are still needed for the program. We also have partnered with local businesses to give discounts to Cadets for haircuts and have a local dive shop that provides air for our marksmanship team.
