Goal

Students in Pre-K will recognize all letter sounds, and will write and recognize all letters of the alphabet. They will develop confidence and a strong foundation for reading when entering Kindergarten. 

What will be done with my students

Fundations will be an ongoing system that will be permanently integrated throughout the school year during large group and small group learning.
Students begin learning and recognizing letters and sounds on the first day of school. As the year progresses, the students will put letters and sounds together for developing pre-reading skills, and will begin Kindergarten with a strong foundation for reading.
Recognizing letters and their sounds aligns with the DLM Curriculum we use for academic growth and learning for Literacy, and also aligns with the Florida Standards for Four and Five Year Old Children.

 

Benefits to my students

Expected outcomes will include children's knowledge of letters, letter-sounds, and ability to write letters. 36 children will be directly involved with the Foundations program implemented in two classrooms. Two classroom teachers will use this teaching tool, along with two early childhood professionals, and two para professionals.
