How Project Benefits Students

Communication is the key to success!

The students I serve have Individual Educational Plans (IEP) that target improving receptive/expressive language skills, articulation skills, pragmatics, phonology, and literacy skills. The students have been identified with a Language Impairment, Speech Impairment, Developmentally Delay, or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Language skills can take on many roles within a school setting and are crucial for student success. Students need the ability to verbalize their thoughts and ideas, respond to questions verbally, answer comprehension questions, follow verbal instructions, use age-appropriate receptive and expressive language skills, speak clearly, and use socially appropriate language skills.

Language is a plethora of verbs, adjectives, pronouns, nouns, adverbs and concepts neatly formulated into grammatical sentences. The students that will receive the materials from this grant lack some of these foundational skills. They struggle to understand and use the rules of language. The requested materials will provide multiple modalities to target multiple skills.

Expected Outcome(s)

-Documented growth of students' understanding and use of language concepts.

-Increased listening and comprehension skills

-Increased grade level vocabulary skills

-Increased use of grammatical sentences across the school setting (verbal/written).
