The overall objective of Digital Lab Learning is to effectively engage all students thus increasing their science content understanding. When participating in science labs we need a way to avoid road blocks in learning due to student absences, equipment set-up, lab reminders, lab research, paper, equipment costs and ability to complete STEM simulation activities. In order to increase student achievement, engagement and to assist absent students with lab visuals I would like to incorporate the use of tablets into lab based instruction in the science classroom. The tablets have the capability to display PowerPoints, scientific images, simulation activities for labs, take and display pictures and video complete with speakers for sound. They will even allow teachers the ability to create real life activities, homework assignments and even test questions with pictures and video so that the students can practice analyzing and reworking real experimental data. Teachers will have the ability to support students' STEM education by providing the technology in everyday classroom activities.

Project Goal

How Project Benefits Students

Students will use the tablets to assist them in building their STEM skills. They will help in the understanding of complex lab set-ups, provide them with photo or video lab hints, allow them the ability to create their own labs or explore concepts deeper by utilizing the digital apps. They will eliminate the struggles of absent students by allowing them to view labs after they have occurred providing them with equal opportunity to view real digital data and complete a digital experiment make-up without missing too much class time. All students will be able to use real time lab video, data or even images as evidence in their experiment discussions. Students will also be able to refer back to experiments when studying for tests or quizzes.

Expected Outcome(s)

As a Subject Area Leader, I intend on teaching all Science Teachers how to incorporate the use of the tablets in their STEM instruction therefore reaching all students school wide. The goal is to have all students better their critical thing skills using 21st century tools to solve real life STEM problems.

Detailed Cost Summary
