Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

The 2018-19 school year has been a year of exploration and wonder for my students.  We have worked hard to encourage the development of science knowledge in many areas from biology to astronomy.  My students are very curious about the planet and all of its wonders.  Through this grant, I have been able to order materials that strengthen our lessons. It is very encouraging to see how these materials helped to solidify and bring to life areas of science.

Students learn in different ways and need materials that they can touch.  For a child to hold a dinosaur and talk about it or take magnets and see how they work, it is an exciting experience.  My kids have learned so much and are so greatful for all the new "toys".  They do not realize that through play and instruction, their little minds absorb so much information.  The students have been thrilled with the new classroom toys and every child now wants to play in the science center.  This was my goal.

My students have improved on vocabulary, mathematic skills and readiness skills used to support kindergarten.  I will use these tools in the coming years to continue encouraging student interest in science!!!!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please know that my students are so excited and have learned so much due to these materials.  Unfortunately, I am not able to upload pictures due to the privacy of some students.

Original Grant Overview

Project Goal

To improve communication and literacy skills by enhancing the classroom science center. My goal is to engage my students and peak their interest in science.

How Project Benefits Students

Studies have shown that doing experiments and exploring education through science enhances a child's social/emotional development and literacy acquisition. My classroom is a blended VPK/PEEPS (ESE) class. This type of classroom has typical peers and children with special needs. In order to promote strong literacy growth, I must utilize many tangible, visual, textural and audible aids. My students learn by using all senses. Children retain information differently and through many channels. Social dramatic play is a crucial part of a child's early development.

Expected Outcome(s)

By enhancing the science center for my students, my expected outcomes include; social development, increased vocabulary and increased literacy through a print-rich and hands on environment.
