Goal

Students learn through a variety of modalities. One of those ways is through hands on learning. By providing manipulatives students can increase the comprehension of more complex activities. The goal of this grant is provide concrete learning activities to more abstract thinking. What will be done with my students

These items will be incorporated into all aspects of the learning environment. Some of our students are working on general education standards and others are working on access point standards. These materials will be introduced in teacher led activities to help ensure mastery. The materials are then moved into the students assigned work or task box to complete independently during small group instruction. This will provide opportunities to build on their foundation of information and create more independence.

Benefits to my students

The students in our resource and self-contained classrooms have a variety of needs. Most of my students have an intellectual disability and/or have Autism Spectrum Disorder. These students are instruction requires hands on materials to master concrete critical thinking skills. By using these hands on materials, my students will be able to demonstrate mastery of new skills taught throughout the school year. These materials will benefit up to 20 students within our resource and self-contained special needs classrooms. These items are not consumable, therefore able to assist students learning for several years.

Budget Narrative

The total budget for these material is $926.50. This grant will allow students to build independence while working on developmentally appropriate skills. These items will allow student to feel success and independence while they achieve higher level thinking skills.
