Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Project Goal

The goal of The NETS Project is to revive our school’s Physical Education Program by reintroducing volleyball/badminton and soccer units! As a Title 1 school, we simply do not have the extra funding to revamp all the needed equipment to support these units.

We attempted the inexpensive volleyball standards that we could purchase with a $250 mini-grant from our PTSA, but they didn’t hold up well. We were forced to stop using them all together because the lightweight volleyball standards easily tip over which resulted in injured students. We have tried to improvise soccer goals using cones on the field, which brought a safety concern while collecting soccer balls that were kicked outside of the school gates.

To enhance the experience and increase the minutes of actual play, purchasing quality volleyball standards and nets, along with soccer goals would allow us to take our student’s Physical Education to the next level.

What will be done with my students

NETS =
New Physical Education Unit (Volleyball/Badminton and Soccer)
Equipment
Teaching
Sports

New – New Physical Education Unit and Curriculum so we can include Volleyball/Badminton and Soccer in our school.

Equipment – Equipment obtained (volleyball standards, nets, and soccer goals) will allow us to increase exercising and develop motor skills and physical fitness.

Teaching – Teaching the technicalities, honing in on natural abilities and building the discipline of the sport will not only create great athletes. Students will also learn life skills such as hard work, teamwork, strategy, decision-making, problem solving, communication, cooperation, and good sportsmanship.

Sports – Sports as an extramural option would be an amazing opportunity to bring to our school community. We are a performing arts school, however, the interest in sports activities from both parents and students is present.

Benefits to my students

We would love to give our children quality equipment to enhance and broaden their 6-8 grade physical education experience. There are currently 270 students that choose phys. ed. as a daily class period at Orange Grove. Each of these children would benefit.

In addition, we are excited to see the moral boost that would come from reintroducing extramural sports. The proper equipment will allow us to have effective practices for our student athletes and proudly host home games. The NETS Project can have a huge impact on our school and the surrounding community.
