Goal

This project will support students as they go from reading simple words to decoding more challenging words and stories as their phonics knowledge increases. This will result in increased proficiency of reading standards in the areas of phonics, vocabulary and comprehension. 

What will be done with my students

There is nothing better than seeing a child discover the joy of reading. These fun stories will be implemented immediately on a daily basis throughout this school year and many years to come. There are 5 copies of 61 different titles of books which will allow for small group instruction. These books are decodable, meaning children use their new knowledge of letters and sounds to decode the text. This project will help move students from antiquated reading practices of guessing based on picture clues and empower students as they begin their journey of real reading.

These are stories children LOVE to read with words they CAN read! 

Benefits to my students

I expect this this grant will increase students' ability to apply their new knowledge of letters and sounds to decode text. This will lead to increased year end scores in areas of phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.

These materials will benefit 18+ students this year and in many years to come as they will be shared between 2 classroom teachers 

Budget Narrative

The Pip and Tim Little Book Pack Stages 1–7:

Contains a total of 61 decodable books covering Stages 1, 2, 3, 4, Plus 4, 5, 6 and Stage 7 Units 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Feature stunning illustrations and engaging storylines to capture children’s interest with new characters and themes

Read, Write and Draw includes word, phrase and sentence cards, which make it quick for teachers to differentiate for children. Designed for easy classroom use, there are 168 word cards packed in separate boxes, 108 phrase cards, and 108 sentence cards ... that’s lots of reading, writing and drawing!.
