Goal
The goal of this project is to teach students the discipline, etiquette and rules of the game of chess. The long term goal of this project is for students to incorporate the tenets of chess into their daily lives.
What will be done with my students
Students will not only learn the rules and strategies of the game of chess but also practice patience and expand their ability to focus for extended periods of time. They will learn to create a strategy that will help them attain a goal and also learn to predict and mitigate pitfalls that may occur along the way. Students will experience and practice a civil and gracious competitive atmosphere. The goal is for students to internalize these virtues of the game of chess and incorporate them into their approach to classroom participation and ultimately life long learning.
