Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Any play’s goal is to live in the moment and absorb the magic of the arts. Through a performance of Pirates of Penzance, Muller Elementary will aptly showcase theVisual/Performing/Communication Arts theme of its magnet program.

Of course plays and musicals also help develop language and communication skills by teaching children to express themselves both verbally, through facial expressions and body language...which are the keys in becoming a better communicator!

Other specific goals include using memory techniques to memorize lines. Techniques that will be remembered and used even through college to memorize anything from the 50 states all the way to Pi to the 100th digit...limitless possibilities and occasions for having to memorize information!

What will be done with my students

Benefits of Performing Arts in schools are boundless:

Self-Confidence: Taking risks in class by trying out different voices and performing for an audience teaches students to trust their ideas. Leads to further confidence at other speaking engagements.

Cooperation/Collaboration: Theater combines the creative ideas and abilities from all of its participants. Incorporates teamwork.

Self-discipline: Plays take months of hard work: line memorization, song tunes and rhythms. Personal responsibility is rare in a child’s world at this young age. They do the work knowing the consequence their lack of practice will show in front of their friends and families. Positive Peer Pressure!

And of course, the ability to think on their feet when things go wrong - and they WILL, especially in elementary school! This fantastic play has multiple grade levels and performing ensembles - which naturally brings multiple talent levels.
Learning how to deal with mistakes, both yours and others' and not let them become overwhelming is a life lesson worth learning early.

Benefits to my students

Of course we hope that our children get an ego boost from hearing the applause after their singing and dancing numbers. The pride that comes from hearing total strangers laugh at your joke or whistle and shout at the end of the performance is immeasurable. Knowing you put in your best efforts and feel the glow of adoration when it’s all over - there’s nothing to compare to that. This is the outcome we are looking for!

That positive reinforcement of the hard work/reward system that stays with you is your expected outcome. It applies to Everything in Life! Hard work brings rewards in school work, after school sports and anything they set their minds to!
