Goal

To create a supportive environment for young ladies at Maximo Elementary School that will promote student achievement, encourage positive behaviors, enhance self-discipline, develop personal dependability, cultivate high self-esteem, build strong relationships, encourage community service, and provide positive role models.

What will be done with my students

Our students are provided with the resources, tools and guidance necessary to encourage self-discipline, positive behavior, and to cultivate high self-esteem and self-reliance. Mentors, community leaders, teachers and school administrators will work closely with our students to foster a supportive relationship through reinforcement in behavior, academic achievement and social growth.
Our students will have an opportunity to participate in field trips that will enhance cultural awareness. Community service learning projects are part of the program also, which builds a sense of citizenship and community pride. Parental participation is encouraged through parent/girl meetings and workshops.

Benefits to my students

By assisting our Girlfriends program, it will be a rewarding opportunity for us to be able to help our young girls get excited about school and their future. By modeling the kind of expectations they need to succeed, together we will make a positive and significant impact on their young lives.

Describe the Students

Our students are a combination of ESE, low and high performers, and come from diverse backgrounds. For many of our young girls, this will be the first school program that they will be involved in, committed to, and have the opportunity to make an impact on our community.

Budget Narrative

We intend on taking our young girls to college tours, etiquette classes, volunteer/mission trips, and have various speakers and mentors from the community come on campus to speak to them. We need assistance with commercial transportation, lunch to be provided while out on the field trip, awards and certificates to present to the young ladies at the end of the school year. If the budget allows it, for our less fortunate students, we would like to be able to purchase dress attire, not limited to pearls, and or white dress shirts and skirts to represent the program during events, meetings, and workshops.
