What will be done with my students

146 – 4th and 5th grade students at Anona Elementary would be able to participate in the 4 team challenges developed by HOPS. Hops stresses careful reading and following of written and verbal directions precisely, along with emphasizing good sportsmanship and promoting thinking skills necessary for success. Students experience the excitement of putting into action skills they have been learning in the classroom; using creative team thinking and incorporating educational skills with real creative challenges! The specially designed formula and activities help enhance a student's creative and problem solving skills using higher levels of desired thinking skills. HOPS sparks interest for further exploration of study areas and solving future problems. All event materials including a ceremony with awards, along with Personalized Certificates and Froggy Treats for each participant are provided. HOPS presenters bring the whole self-contained program to the students.

Benefits to my students

A trained HOPS facilitator presents the educational hands on problem solving challenges. Students work in teams competing for points in 4 different challenges. HOPS Activities focus on a number of development skills: creative thinking, reading comprehension, interactive team work, team problem solving, strategic planning, decision making, and challenges which include math, science, 3D design skills, visual processing and physics. The HOPS Program helps students recognize that each member of the team has unique abilities & talents essential to success. HOPS is very organized and brings activities that are safe and age appropriate as well as imaginative and challenging. These are unique "out of the box" challenges that intrigue young imagination & instill a sense of curiosity to foster a lifelong love for learning.

Describe the Students

There are 69 – 4th grade students and 77 – 5th grade students at Anona Elementary. These students range in ability levels and backgrounds, but they will all benefit from the opportunity to challenge themselves to higher-levels of thinking and problem solving. Team work and cooperative activities build life-long social skills in all students. HOPS activities require students to read for understanding, come up with out-of-the box solutions, and strategize as a team to complete the puzzles. Any of the activities are STEM based and engage all students in cognitively complex thinking.

Budget Narrative

The cost of HOPS is $10 per student. This includes the cost of having a presenter come out, set up and clean up the games, train parent volunteers to score, certificates for every students, prizes for every student, stickers and ribbons for the top three teams in each event and top three teams overall, and prizes for those teams.
Any additional funds raised would go toward funding other field trips for students at Anona Elementary.
