Goal

To engage students in reading more complex books by tackling a chapter book whole group that take place in the state that they live in to build their confidence and excitement for reading.

What will be done with my students

Students will participate in a novel read aloud of the Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm which takes place in Florida. They will complete character analysis, reflection activities, comprehension components and record their work in their reading notebooks.

Benefits to my students

I want to incorporate standards for literature through out the novel to not only give the students confidence that they can read longer books, but I also want to give them the skill set to comprehend these books.

Budget Narrative

The grant will purchase a class set of the novel.
