Goal

The drama department wants to be able to create theatrical works that unite the community and provide a source of pride for students, staff, and families. Students will be able to participate in theater and musical theater performances with improved sound capabilities.

What will be done with my students

The PRHS theater space allows for students to engage and interact in learning together by creating fun and interesting performances. We produce a musical every spring (this year’s being Little Shop of Horrors) and we have to borrow microphones from other schools; we would like to be able to use our own microphones. Students in theater classes, as well as students who participate as an extracurricular activity, will be involved in learning how to properly use the sound equipment. The students will develop an understanding of the unique requirements of incorporating sound into a performance. By using the equipment, the students will acquire an expertise in specialized performance techniques that are specific to a theatrical performance including, but not limited to, sound board operation, microphone set-up, sound design, collaboration, and communication.

Benefits to my students

Students will develop self-confidence by performing and will gain the satisfaction of knowing the audience can hear them better with enhanced sound. The students will be able to:
• create performance art individually and as an ensemble.
• demonstrate the ability to perform correctly with their voice and body (movement) in front of an audience.
• develop feelings that support theater and musical performances and activities.
• expand and increase their musical ability individually.
• develop technical skills needed in vocational environments.
