Goal

To teach students how to create unique t-shirt designs using adobe photo shop and adobe illustrator, how to manage a production line and meet deadlines. To teach students how to market products, manage a retail business, and work ethic.

What will be done with my students

60 Students in the layout and design class will be utilizing various design software applications to create sublimated cotton t-shirts to be sold in the Dixie Depot School Store. The 30 marketing management students will then market the custom designs using different types of advertising mediums and then work in the school store to sell the products that were created by the layout and design students.

Benefits to my students

The layout and design students will gain valuable design industry related skills while competing to get their designs showcased in the Dixie Depot (school store). These students will see the projects from the design phase through the production phase. The marketing management students will gain valuable skills such as how to market products, SWAT analysis skills, customer relation skills and all phases of managing a retail business (inventory, advertising, store layout, ordering, customer service, scheduling themselves, and business finances).

Describe the Students

My students range in age for fourteen to eighteen. I have 6 ESOL students and 20 ESE students. Since the beginning of the year, I have noticed a increase in motivation and work ethic regarding the project based classes. The marketing management classes have shown a huge increase in the motivation of working and marketing the school store. The students have found that they really enjoy seeing the designs show cased in the store and trying to sell those items. All the profits earned from selling the items goes back into the program to buy equipment and supplies for the students use. The students take great pride in working and are really putting in great effort.

Budget Narrative

We will need the special printer and its inks to transfer the designs onto shirts. The heat press is needed to apply the desired heat for the ink to dye into the fabric of the shirts. The special transfer paper is also needed to print out the designs that will be transferred to the shirts.
