Goal

The goal of this project is to provide K-5 art students the equipment necessary to create hand made tiles to be used in a collaborative, school wide mosaic project installed on our courtyard stairs and columns. A permanent work of art that every child has a hand in creating on our school campus. 

 

What will be done with my students

The purchase of this clay slab roller and glaze will allow us the proper equipment necessary for students to create even thickness clay slabs to design hand made ceramic tiles for a school wide mosaic mural project. We will also be bringing in local mural artist, Beth Warmath to work directly with our students in the deign, creation and installation of this mosaic. We are also planning to continue to expand this project into other areas of our campus courtyard over the next few years so this requested piece of equipment will be used over and over for many years in the art room. 

 

Benefits to my students

Benefits to students include:
working collaboratively on a school wide, permanent mosaic work of art. Students learn to take ownership of their work while seeing the end result of creating a lasting and beautiful work of art. Incorporating the lesson that TOGETHER we can create something beautiful. Each individual piece, each student, is a necessary part of our mosaic and our school. We are all a very important piece of the puzzle.

Students will benefit long term from the purchase of this equipment as it will be used every year for many years to come on future clay and mosaic projects. 

 

Describe the Students

Brooker Creek students range from high level learners to ESE. We also have visually impaired students that will benefit greatly from this project in the fact they can feel and build their tile pieces and know their art is making a difference. Every Brooker Creek student is included in this project regardless of their academic/physical/emotional abilities.  

 

Budget Narrative

Slab roller used for creating even thickness clay slabs in the creation of tile pieces used for mosaic. Blue glazes needed for adding color to our tile pieces.
Since Laguna Clay Company is an approved Pinellas County vendor they are giving us free shipping for this order.
