Goal

Researchers with the National Gifted Association have recognized that the best way to teach problem solving skills, teamwork and creativity is through hands on learning experiences. The challenge is to be able to access materials that are for a variety of ages and can adapt to a variety of learning topics. For the 2021-2022 school year the Center for Gifted Studies will be opening their very first STEAM lab. With opening any new experience for student’s, a challenge has been collecting materials that the students can access, and teachers can integrate into science and math standards. Lego offers a standards-based force and motion hands on learning kit that would provide a multitude of hands-on learning opportunities. The standards for force and motion are found in all first through fifth grade curriculum. The Lego Education BricQ Motion Essential Learning Pack comes with Legos, force and motion lessons as well as additional parts that can adapt for robotics kits such as the WeeDo. With this Lego kit teachers will be able to focus not only on science and math standards but also gifted standards. Our goal with using the Lego BricQ kits is that our students will be highly engaged in learning while being challenged to expand their problem solving skills. What will be done with my students

Being able to work with hands on real life building challenges would help students increase their knowledge of STEAM careers and the ability to problem solve as a team.  

Benefits to my students

Students and teachers will be able to utilize the products in a variety of STEAM lessons that will focus on force and motion. Corporative teamwork, the engineering design process, student communication and engagement will increase 

Budget Narrative

Each kit has materials for 2 students. The largest class has 18 students so I would need 9 kits for a whole class to be able to participate in the activities. The total cost before taxes is 899.55.
