Goal

Students will be able to use math manipulatives to deepen their understanding of new concepts.

What will be done with my students

All students will be able to learn hands on during mathematics. Many students need to use a concrete representation, before having a true understanding of the concept and moving on to an abstract level. By providing students with manipulatives, it allows them to tackle the problem/situation, making their own models. The manipulatives will be used throughout the year and in future years. The place value discs can help students with place value, addition, subtraction, and division. The money buckets will be used for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing money and decimals.

Benefits to my students

At least 88 students will benefit from the place value discs and fake money buckets, this year. These manipulatives can be reused each year, so all future fourth graders will have access to them. Students will use the manipulatives to help them deepen and further their understanding of mathematics.
