Goal

The goal is to introduce my students to the art of adapting children's books into performance material & to share the product of their work with neighboring elementary students.

What will be done with my students

We will take portions of the imaginary musical zoo revue "Philadelphia Chickens" by Sandra Boynton and create an original showcase of the material. Students will work cooperatively to stage each of the pieces, plan for necessary costumes & props, & then bring the completed project to the elementary school next door to share it.

Benefits to my students

My students will learn to create literary adaptations, while celebrating the joy of reading and performing for children. Our younger audience members will experience live theatre in an informal setting, & discover the possibilities that are connected to reading.

Budget Narrative

Costumes and props will be purchased online & in local novelty stores. Recorded musical accompaniment will be provided by a local musician.
