Goal

To have students engage readers by creating Book Cover T-Shirts featuring their favorite authors and books.

What will be done with my students

Students will determine the genre, audience and subjects of interest for a variety of books. Keeping those elements and point of view of the authors in mind, they will create original art to become a new Book Cover for the materials they are supporting. The purpose is to engage other students in the desire to read. By printing the book covers on T-Shirts, the students become walking advertisements for literacy.

Benefits to my students

Reading for enjoyment is an integral part of being a life long learner. Readers have stronger vocabulary, better spelling and the ability to support their ideas through text proofs. This project enables students to be the advertisers, advocates and experts on literacy by drawing attention to the joys of reading.

Budget Narrative

The budget allows for each student to print a color heat transfer of their book cover onto a T-Shirt - since they are a school project - the T-Shirts are considered school uniforms = a special treat for our title one students to have their own creation, an extra uniform shirt and no cost to their parents.
