Goal

To receive grants to provide funding for the elective program at Pine Ridge. which introduces young at-risk youth to the workplace by teaching them hands on skills that improve their overall behavior, communication, leadership and academic abilities.

What will be done with my students

Students currently participate in the Auto Detailing and Bike Repair lab activities of the Elective program. In this program they learn how to properly detail vehicles from an outside school agency in order to enhance community relationships, test quality of work concept and model a real workplace environment where they can learn about leadership, behavior, communication, math through accounting practices, science through the use of chemicals. In the Bike repair portion they receive bikes from the BSO and learn how to repair them to pay it forward to other local charities in their community.

Benefits to my students

By funding this project the students can continue to learn these skills. This program is not funded by the school and relies on earnings from their own customers. The bike repair portion does not receive funds but requires parts to fix bikes in order to donate them back to the community. Students who exhibit behavior traits and are sent to our school must learn how to better their academic and behavior which this program provides them that opportunity. Learning to work with your hands and learn skills that improve their job skills gives them a chance to not only go back to their home school but be better in their community.

Budget Narrative

This program provides at-risk youth with the opportunity to learn job skills, community relationships and how to give back to people who need help through their own hands and hard work. Teaching them these skills improves their overall academic and behavior which gives them the chance to move back to their home school and become successful in our community.
