Goal

By May 2018, students will show an increase in their reading readiness using initial data from the "Concept of Print" checklist administered in the lst quarter, with 75% of the students achieving 18/21 skills on the checklist.

What will be done with my students

Students will be given a book at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the first semester. Initially, students will have these for class use in lessons to practice and identify the Concept of Print skills. Then, they will take them home to share and read with their family.

Benefits to my students

To increase student achievement, developing an effective home-school connection with the families reading with their child will be beneficial. In addition, since I teach in a Title I school, many of the students are highly impoverished, and may not have ample books to read at home. This will be helpful to increase not only the readiness skills, but listening and comprehension skills.
Overall, students will develop a life-long love of reading and learning!

Budget Narrative

Scholastic books have numerous books available for $1 each. The monthly book catalogs have books that the student can select.
