Through purposeful play, children will learn how to work together to create structures using blocks and wire pieces.
Children will have the opportunity to create structures using the games/resources outlined below. Through trial and error, children will learn how to apply their knowledge of how shapes fit together to create a sturdy foundation. The wire pieces will challenge students to adjust their structures to accommodate the shifts in balance that newly added pieces create.
When children play with toys they are learning! Building with blocks is the first step that children take to learn how materials fit together and serve a purpose. This play can be connected to the real world by talking about how architects design buildings and then talking about how builders actually build the buildings. By providing STEM activities to our young students, we are creating an opportunity for them to explore and understand how classroom learning translates to the world around us.
I have a great group of Kindergarten Students. They are a glorious mix of ESE, low and high performers. I am constantly working to identify learning activities that afford each and every one of them the opportunity to be successful.
The items I am looking to purchase include an Architecture Standard Unit Blocks Set (2) and (3) "Suspend Games" that use wire pieces to build structures that shift and change every time a new piece is added. Children will engage in productive struggles independently and within cooperative groups to design and build structures according to parameters that I provide during a given challenge lesson or STEM exploration activity.
